I’ve been busy the past few days so I apologize for the late posts! Today’s is from Thursday, tonight’s will be Friday, and I’ll do today tomorrow morning if I can. On Sunday we leave for a week’s trip to the coast (Santa Marta and Cartagena) and I’m not taking my laptop, so I won’t post at all next week- you’ll just have a ton of catching-up blog posts when I return!
Thursday was my last day at the foundation with the abuelitos. All of the long, wordy, philosophical posts about voluntourism, social impact, the greater good, time, and all of those Kristina-y things will come later when I have time and less photos to share, but saying goodbye was an event of mixed feelings.
Thursday morning I scheduled my fall Google Calendar, emailed graduate schools, began to schedule application timelines and fellowship timelines and scholarship timelines, as well as looking at weekends I can road-trip to personally visit some of these schools. It was rather stressful because I don’t know exactly what I want to do or where I want to go, and I have to make a decision- not helped by the fact that my schedule is already packed until December, and that I’ve become used to the Colombia culture of little stress and a deficit of preemptive planning.
All of this was made better when I found hot tea and I couldn’t have been happier in my writing hour before work. John was there early, too, so I didn’t write, but I had a good conversation and that’s just as intellectually stimulating.
Here are the finished painted bottles from Wednesday. Can you tell which is mine?
And these are pictures with all of the members of the foundation.
And of course one with Alirio:
Who just really likes the girls.
And no one can forget Diego!
Yesterday we sang Disney songs, rode horses, ate aguapanela, and attempted to make chocolate-chip cookies and peanut butter and jelly for the festival today. Tomorrow we watch the World Cup, leave for the coast, and are gone until next Sunday night. I leave on a bus from Ibague Monday afternoon and take a red-eye flight on Tuesday morning, where I head to Miami and then Charlotte. I should be home in Charlotte mid-afternoon on Tuesday the 22, and I leave for Wisconsin the next morning.
Until tonight!
