This weekend was quite a busy one!
Saturday was our school’s International Festival, which is where all internationally and culturally-based organizations on campus, in addition to community organizations and nonprofits in Charlotte, have a festival of food and dance to showcase their respective cultures. It’s a wonderful event and I’m quite sad that it was my last one participating. Model UN always has a stand, beside the International House and other nonprofit organizations.
I arrived at 9:00 am, and throughout the day we had volunteers from our organization come and man the booth.
This is Casey, our treasurer. He left early because he traveled to New York for the People’s Climate March on Sunday.
New member, Chris.
Kid you not, we had multiple visitors ask, “What country is Model UN? Can you show me on the map?” Which left me wondering how many people had assumed it was a country and didn’t ask…
New members volunteering like pros. At International Festival, all visitors are given a “passport” and have to get stamps from all of the booths.
This is Dr. Combs (Dumblegalf/Gandore), Justin (my best friend ever), Steven (Justin’s boyfriend), and Mike, our Vice President External.
Sunday I had to volunteer at the Panthers’ vs. Steelers game. While we didn’t fare too well, most of our new people came for the first time and we had fun anyway- though it was honestly one of the busiest games I have ever worked in my entire “Panthers-game” career.
These are three of our new members- Noah, Zach S., and Huan.
This is Zach C. and Griffen.
I asked for a photo because a) photo, and b) this is our first ever receipt because they finally gave us credit card machines. (At the end of the game I wasn’t so excited, they ended up causing more chaos than actual good).
Say hi, Noah!
And this is Tyler, bravely manning the cheese.
I ended up getting home around 2:00 am and to bed around 3:00, and I woke up at 7:00, but c’est la vie.
Until tomorrow!
